Construction Academy
Design Science is pleased to announce the opening of the Construction Academy, a partnership with Fresno City College.
Design Science High School and Fresno City College will partner to create the Construction Academy. This Academy is a two-year opportunity that will target high school seniors who show an interest in construction. Students will spend the morning at their respective high schools in core subject areas and will take construction courses at Fresno City College in the afternoon. Students will graduate from high school in year one and will return to Fresno City College to complete the course requirements as freshman in college. This program will lead to several options of completion. Students may earn:
• Associate of Science Degree in Construction (This will take longer than the two-years allocated)
• Transferable credit to CSU Fresno (Focus on a Bachelors in Construction Management)
• Certificate of Achievement in Construction
Cost of Program:
Students will fill out waivers for college tuition. Books and fees will be covered by Fresno Unified School District. Students may be responsible for tools ranging in price from $100-300 per student. Scholarships may be available.
Enrollment Requirements:
Students who are interested in the program should have the following characteristics:
• Must be a Senior in High School and in good standing
• Be serious about a career in construction
• Demonstrate an excellent attitude
• Have excellent attendance
• Work well individually and in groups
• Score at, or qualify for, English 125 on the Fresno City College placement test
• Score at, or qualify for, Math 101 on the Fresno City College placement test
Enrollment Process:
Interested students will need to complete the application process. Incomplete applications cannot be considered. The following are the requirements to be completed:
•Complete the Magnet Application. Make sure to indicate Construction Academy
• Complete Fresno City College Application (Provided by Design Science High School)
• Complete Board of Governors Waiver or FAFSA waiver as appropriate (DSHS)
• Complete the Fresno City College placement exams
Notification:
Students will be notified by mail upon acceptance to the program. Students must remain in good standing before and during the course of the program. Placement is based on a first come, first served format. A waiting list will be generated, however, no mid year placements will be accepted. All successful applicants will begin coursework in the fall of their senior year.
